Avengers: Infinity War is tearing up the box office, netting $1.164 billion in its first dozen days, and some analysts believe it has a chance to hit $2 billion. The monumental comic book movie is about to get even more publicity (as if it ever needed it). Epic Games and Marvel collaborated to bring Thanos to Fortnite for a limited time starting this Tuesday.
The most popular movie and the most popular video game clash in this limited-time crossover. The game mode is called “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup,” and it will provide a major weapon on the Battle Royale mode. The villain of Avengers: Infinity War will visit the free-for-all video game and allow you to control all of the power by acquiring the Infinity Gauntlet. If you are able to find the Mad Titan’s gauntlet, you’ll transform into Thanos.
Marvel: “Infinity War is the most ambitious crossover event in history.”
This marvelous mashup came to fruition because Avengers Infinity War directors Anthony and Joe Russo are allegedly gigantic Fortnite fans. “Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games,” Russo told Entertainment Weekly. “And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked [Epic Games creative director] Donald [Mustard].”
They reached out to Donald Mustard, the creative director at Epic Games, to discuss the possibility of an intersection of pop culture icons. “This kind of opportunity, where you have this mutual respect for someone’s work and you’re on the same page about doing something cool for fans, is rare and really exciting,” Mustard told EW. “We hope players love it.”
What powers the Gauntlet will provide is not yet known and Epic Games will reveal the new mode tomorrow morning, Tuesday, May 8, 2018. What will you do when you wield the powerful Gauntlet with all six Infinity Stones?
