If you’ve ever visited New York, I probably don’t have to tell you how many struggle rappers around the city are constantly hustling to make a name for themselves.

These aspiring musicians are always on their grind, whether they’re handing out CDs in Times Square or lugging a karaoke machine around the subway system in the hope of coming across someone who might give them their big break.

I don’t know how many hip-hop artists have managed to land a record deal by impressing an A&R guy on the L train but I’m willing to bet its not exactly the best strategy.

If you’ve worked in entertainment (or watched Mischa Barton attempt to act on The O.C.) then you already know having talent isn’t necessarily a prerequisite for making it to the top.

There’s no exact recipe for success when it comes to making it in the industry, but it usually consists of a lot of networking, excessive ass-kissing, and a whole lot of luck.

That last ingredient is the basis of The After Party, a new film from Netflix documenting the fictional struggles of an up-and-coming rapper named Owen.

After becoming a meme following a performance gone wrong, he and his buddy find a way to get into an exclusive party that could be Owen’s last chance at redemption— all while meeting a number of notable rappers in the process.

The After Party is the brainchild of Ian Edelman, who also created How To Make It In America, which is easily my favorite show that no one else seemed to appreciate (I’d pour out some Rasta Monster in its memory if the energy drink actually existed).

Kid Cudi was tapped for a minor role in that series and it looks like the cameos are about to get taken to the next level based on who showed up in the trailer.

I’m personally all in based almost solely on the appearance of Pusha T.

The trailer also promises performances from French Montana, DJ Khaled, and Wiz Khalifa, but according to People, it will also feature appearances by Ski Mask the Slump God, Desiigner, Jadakiss, Tee Grizzley, and Young M.A. (among others).

The After Party will premiere on Netflix on August 24th.
