Batsuit In ‘The Batman’ Trailer Rumored To Be A “Prototype”, Will Be Upgraded DURING The Movie

Warner Bros.

Over the weekend, the first trailer for Warner Bros’ upcoming Dark Knight reboot, The Batman, arrived and absolutely blew fans away in the process, showcasing what could be one of the best Batman films of all-time.

For me, as a lifelong Batman fan, this first look — which was somehow put together despite the fact that only 25% of the movie has been filmed — provided everything I’d hope to see in a modern-take on the Capred Crusader: from atmosphere to tone to cinematography and choreography, this film looks like it has to potential to be the cinematic take on Batman.

That said, on our pop culture podcast (The Post-Credit Podcast), I argued earlier this week that if there were some thing to nitpick, one of mine would be the suit. Now, to be clear, I do actually love most of the suit *except* for the collar and the cowl. But other than that — the chest armor, the forearm guards, the boots, the cape, etc. — all great.

As it turns out, though, the Batsuit we see in this first trailer may not be the only one Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne dons throughout the course of the entire movie, as there are rumors out there that Batman will actually upgrade his gear during The Batman.

Following the trailer debut, fans have dug up a Reddit post from six months ago that was apparently written by an extra on set, claiming that Batman will wear two different looks in the film. Speaking about the suit we do see in the trailer, the Redditor says this version is merely his “prototype” and will be upgraded before the end of the film:

“It’s Batman’s prototype suit and once it gets destroys, he makes a new one. I haven’t seen it in action but I saw a few pictures taken by someone who was putting it together.”

As for the actual look, the post describes this new suit as a cross between Batman’s iconic grey-look in Batman: The Animated Series and the “Night-Monkey” suit from Spider-Man: Far From Home.

It’s extremely similar to Spider-Man’s SHIELD suit from the ‘Far From Home’ movie last year. The material is very similar, being a sort of tactical padded fabric material. There’s way less straps and extra details on the batsuit compared to the Spider-Man suit but the material and look is very similar.

It’s grey, with full black gloves extending to his forearms and black boots. The symbol is no longer metal and lacking ears, it’s a more “classic” version of the symbol on the first suit in the film. The cowl is made of a higher quality material than the leather of the first cowl. The ears are medium-to-long length and the mouth opening is much smaller. He no longer has the collar. (I think he might have the white eyes too).

The utility belt is a bronze-gold faded color, and it’s more pouch than the futuristic metal type belt of the Nolan films.

Now, why does this particular Reddit post hold such weight? Because the person who wrote it completely and accurately described one of the scenes that appeared in the trailer during DC FanDome.

“I don’t want to give out my exact job but I’m not an extra. It’s a funeral scene that gets crashed by a villain. Catwoman is in costume but everyone else is in normal character clothing I guess. No Batsuit on set,” the Redditor said.

Given what Reeves has showed us and told us (particularly that The Batman will be a Year Two story — Bruce Wayne isn’t quite a rookie but he’s certainly still fresh on the crimefighting scene) — it stands to reason that the Dark Knight would be forced to improve his gear as the threats in Gotham City continue to grow.

As for the actual aeshtics of this new rumored suit, the Batman: The Animated Series style is probably my favorite Batsuit of all-time, so I’m all for it.
