Back in August, we brought you the news that a new Captain America was set to be introduced in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the first of the many Marvel Cinematic Universe TV series that are set to be released on Disney+.

At D23 Expo, Marvel revealed that Black Mirror star Wyatt Russell will join the show as a new character called U.S. Agent. As most comic book fans already know, this ‘hero’ once took over as a new, more violent version of Captain America in the source material.

Given his ‘colourful’ comic book history, it’s unclear what role Walker will play on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but whether he turns out to be a hero or a villain, his appearance will definitely throw a shield in the works regardless.

If Mackie’s telling the truth and Falcon does reject the role of Captain America, then it’s likely that the US government will want to pick someone else to replace him and U.S. Agent is the obvious candidate. [Digital Spy]

Those theories have since been confirmed, as Wyatt Russell (22 Jump Street, Black Mirror) has been spotted on the set of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier in costume as U.S. Agent John Walker.

John Walker, a.k.a. U.S. Agent, first debuted in Captain America #323 back in November 1986. Originally introduced as the supervillain Super-Patriot, Walker was meant to be a counterbalance to Captain America, although he eventually takes over the mantle himself and joins the Avengers.

‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe series to hit Disney+ when it premieres in August 2020.
