The Rock, Forever The People’s Champ, Personally Reaches Out To Journalist To Arrange An Interview (It’s Me – I’m The Journalist)

I’ve been working here at BroBible for over three years now. Truth be told, it’s my dream job: I make enough money to pay the bills, but more importantly, I love what I do. Sunday scaries simply don’t exist for me — I never dread waking up in the morning and living my own life, and the unfortunate reality of our world is most people cannot say that same thing about themselves.

I’m one of those walking cliches who just wants to “wake up happy.” I could delve into why that stems from watching the 2008 financial crisis shred my family down to mentally and emotionally scattered pieces when I was just a freshman in high school, but that’s a different story for another therapy session. The point is that I love it here at BroBible because I’m fully able and equipped to pursue my passion.

And if you’ve followed my writing on this here website, then you’ll know my passion is pop culture, particularly blockbuster entertainment that unfolds both in theaters and on television. And thanks to the outlet and megaphone that this job has provided me with, I’ve been able to build quite an impressive resume of interviews over the years that includes the likes of Nicolas Cage, Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, Chris Pratt, Jonathan Majors, Zack Snyder, and many, many more.

But for as thrilling and life-changing as those interviews may have been, they pale in comparison to the one I’ve hopefully got in the works: a chance to interview The Rock, who is someone I’ve been looking up to since he became a WWF superstar in the late 90s (in fact, I still get legitimately angry whenever I reminisce about Stone Cold and Vince McMahon screwing him out of the title during Wrestlemania X7, a highway robbery for the ages).

Having apparently missed the boat from Black Adam‘s US press junket, I hopped on Twitter to share my regret that I wouldn’t be able to chat with The Rock about the release of the film, which hits theaters in a couple of weeks after literal years of anticipation.

Little did I know that The Rock himself would not only respond, but take it upon himself to arrange an interview:

And this, ultimately, is the perfect summation of who The Rock is: despite the fact that he’s now literally the biggest movie star in the world, he still takes the time to have personal interactions with fans and journalists who’ve been with him on this journey, whether it be since the Attitude Era, his introduction into the Fast franchise, or his upcoming foray into comic book movie making with Black Adam. The Rock is, was, and always will be the People’s Champ, and I can’t wait to tell him that in person (or, you know, over Zoom).

In addition to The Rock as Black Adam, the film stars Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz, and more. The film will hit theaters in the United States on Friday, October 21, 2022.
