Following the massive success of The Witcher — the series, which was released in last December, became Netflix’s biggest ever new TV show after 76 million member households watched at least some of the show in its first month of release — Netflix has announced another upcoming project based n the source material.

On Wednesday, Netflix’s “geek” Twitter account (their words, not mine) confirmed that The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf — an anime movie that will take fans “back to a new threat facing the Continent — is in development from Lauren S. Hissrich and Beau DeMayo, the team beyond the live-action series. Additionally, Legend Of Kora‘s Studio Mir will be involved with the project.

Netflix has yet to make an official statement about the project other than the above tweet.

The Witcher — which stars Henry Cavill as the titular Witcher, Geralt of Rivia — is based on the Polish book series of the same name. In addition to Cavill, The Witcher stars Freya Allan, Eamon Farren, Anya Chalotra, Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, Royce Pierreson, Mini Ndiweni, Anna Shaffer, and Mahesh Jadu.

“Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”– the official synopsis for The Witcher.

In addition to the animated movie, the second season of the popular series will hit Netflix sometime in 2021.
