Finally, a TikTok challenge that doesn’t conclude with someone in the emergency room or in jail.

One of the latest viral trends on TikTok sees Zoomers have been tricking Boomers (and anyone else they can dupe) into thinking that their favorite celebrities have died and then posting the comical reaction videos online.

Celebrity death hoaxes are, of course, nothing new to the internet. It’s one of social media’s favorite tropes. It’s happened to everyone from Ellen Degeneres and Jeff Goldblum to Tony Danza and Roger Goodell.

Nor are reactions videos. They have been a staple of sites like Twitter and YouTube for as long as the platforms have been in existence.

The thing is, if done properly, they will never get old, and now we have TikTok.

The videos are pretty basic in concept.

Someone pretends to look at their phone while in reality filming the victim of the prank.

The prankster then proceeds to act like they are reading a headline announcing the passing of one of the victim’s favorite celebrities and voila! Comedy gold.

Something else that isn’t new to the internet, but again, if done well, also will never get old and that is the compilation video.

A perfect example of this is a recent TikTok compilation video of several of these celebrity death pranks which has now been viewed over 16.3 MILLION times.

Among the famous celebrities pranksters have falsely claimed to have died in the video are Cher, Howard Stern, Oprah Winfrey, John Travolta, Jon Bon Jovi, and Hugh Grant.

@stevescooche This is all over my fyp and I can’t stop laughing 😂 #fakecelebrityprank #fakecelebritydeath #fyp #oprahwinfrey ♬ original sound – .

How about other boomer favorite celebrities like Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton, Bruce Springsteen and Kris Jenner? Also funny.
