Travelers Are Going Through Airport Security—Then They Spot a TSA Dog That’s Clearly Not Trained Yet

The line to get through airport security is usually boring. However, one group of travelers couldn’t contain their laughter when a TSA dog in-training provided free entertainment just a few feet away.

In a video with over 2.5 million views, TikToker and comedian Matt Wright (@mattwrightcomedy) covers his face with his shirt to disguise his laughter. A dog toy squeaks loudly in the background.

The culprit wasn’t someone’s pet going through security. Instead, a TSA officer tries to wrangle a rambunctious puppy training to be a part of the security team.

On-screen text reads, “Saw an airport security dog before it got properly trained and it made my year.”

How Long Does It Take To Train A TSA Dog?

According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website, its security dogs often attend a 16-week long puppy boot camp in Texas to prepare them for the role. The dogs spend time with trainers in the classroom to learn search techniques and how to detect explosives and other weapons.

Even after the dogs make it through boot camp, their training isn’t done.

The TSA dog will then go to its home airport to spend over a month acclimating to the environment and practicing its detection skills. The dog Wright spotted was likely in this phase of the training program and still adjusting to the excitement of the airport.

Once the dog proves its skills at the airport, it receives its certification to work with TSA.

Other Travelers Share Their TSA Dog Stories

In the comments, other viewers shared their hilarious run-ins with TSA dogs in training.

“I had one stop to sniff my shoes. I had a panicked look obsessed my face. the cop goes, you have cats don’t you…. I’m like, yup,” one said.

A second shared, “I was flying out of florida back to my home state once and an airport security dog bolted towards me with his tail wagging and tongue hanging out. the handler just sighed really heavily and told me he wanted to play.”

“When I was like 5 a sniffer dog alerted to a bagel in my backpack and the handler was in tears bc it wasn’t a new sniffer dog or anything just a beagle that really wanted my bagel,” another wrote.

However, some suggested that the playful security dog may have just been on “break.”

A viewer pointed out, “I’ve seen this. They give them ‘breaks to play’ and then refocus them sometimes- it’s comical! I love it.”

Yall know dogs get breaks too right?” another asked.

@mattwrightcomedy

I’ve seen so many police dogs but never have I seen one in training. It was delightful. This was at five in the morning .
