Woman Tries To Bring Hot Sauce Through TSA—She Gets Stopped And Questioned Over Its Unfortunate Shape

A woman picks up a bottle of hot sauce and leaves it in her carry-on while going through the airport. Then TSA agents immediately flag it for its bizarre shape, leading to an additional inspection.

In a video with over 691,000 views, TikToker Sunday Leigh (@sundaymariee) walks behind an agent holding her bottle of hot sauce. She shows a previous clip of the same agent taking the hot sauce out of a shopping bag.

Upon closer inspection, the hot sauce bottle is shaped like a grenade. The brand The General’s Hot Sauce makes the bottle, with proceeds supporting veterans and their families. This unfortunate shape likely set off alarms in the security line.

The caption reads, “Common sense can be difficult. The TSA agent was so kind and brought me to a counter to have it mailed home.”

She warns others in on-screen text not to make the same mistake. She writes, “PSA don’t try to bring hot sauce in the shape of a gr*nade through TSA.”

Can You Bring Hot Sauce Through TSA?

While the grenade-shaped bottle raised red flags at security, passengers can generally bring hot sauce through security. According to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website, all liquids, including hot sauce, have to be under 100 ml each. Larger bottles can go through checked baggage.

A traveler on the r/Flights subreddit suggests there may be a workaround to get larger bottles through security.

“If you are taking it as carry-on it needs to be completely frozen when going through TSA,” they write.

They suggest frozen sauce counts as a solid food product instead of a liquid. However, others say TSA confiscates harder gels and butters. So, the trick may not work.

Viewers React To The Hot Sauce’s Shape

In the comments section, viewers question why she thought she could get through security with the grenade-shaped hot sauce bottle.

“Could have been shaped ANYTHING else,” a commenter remarks.

“Weapon shaped items typically get flagged as being weapons,” a second jokes.

“Don’t stick fork in outlet ahh statement,” a third adds.

Others say they tried to bring the same hot sauce through security.

“I had the exact same one and they freaked out about it,” one writes.

Some say they accidentally brought items that looked suspicious through security, too.

“My brother brought a ton of cheese from Switzerland but they wrapped it really suspiciously and it just looked like he was smuggling in pounds of crack,” a viewer shares.

Another says, “Security checked my bag, asked what this circle shape was, my mom said bath bombs. The world stopped.”
