For several seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones, Tyrion Lannister was the clear favorite character of GoT fans. Some fans’ allegiances have changed over time as some of the other lead characters’ identities and personalities were flushed out more and power shifted hands, but Tyrion is and will always be a top-3 character on the show.
There are some *potential spoilers ahead* but there’s nothing concrete here. This is a fan theory from the Alt Shift X YouTube channel which suggests that at some point in Season 8 Tyrion will have his tongue cut out. The case they make is pretty legit, and if you’re an avid fan of the Game of Thrones show or A Song of Ice and Fire books then the notion of someone losing their tongue isn’t radical at all. It might seem outlandish that one of the main characters, a man who relies on his quick wit and ability to turn a phrase, would lose his tongue. But there’s only one season left, and we’ve seen plenty of main characters in the past dealt some devastating blows.
Who would be responsible for ordering Tyrion Lannister’s tongue cut out? The easy answer is his sister Cersei. She’s even threatened as much in the past. But I think this answer’s too easy. If Tyrion does actually lose his tongue and ability to speak I bet we’re going to see this happen in some crazy plot twist. It’ll either be his brother Jamie taking the tongue or it will be Daenerys ordering his tongue cut out, something I’m sure she’ll regret later. The show’s too clever to have it all happen the way most people would expect.
