Any time Julian Erosa steps into the UFC Octagon, we can expect fireworks. He has absolutely thrown down since his return to the UFC and put together an impressive highlight reel. There’s still now way we could have been prepared for what we saw from him and Steven Peterson today.
In round one, Erosa had success from the start. He had Peterson moving backwards and was landing consistently. While the striking stats ended up being close in round one, it felt like Erosa had a clear edge.
Then Peterson turned it up in round two and a slugfest ensued. The two men absolutely unloaded on each other in the round, with each man getting rocked by heavy leather.
Round 3 was more of the same. They just continued to swing at an incredible pace with neither man seeming to be able to really separate themselves. Then Erosa landed a couple of takedowns and landed some big shots from the top to pull ahead.
The fight ended with ended with Erosa throwing a pair of kicks that you’d have to see to believe and even managed to land one of them.
The men went the distance and the scorecards gave a split decision to Erosa, with him winning 28-29, 29-28, 29-28. Fellow UFC fighters were extremely impressed with the display.

This fight is WILD! Peterson back into the fight now. Erosa has to be more defensively responsible in this 3rd RD and he should win this. #UFCVegas47

Fittingly, Paul Felder ended up with some blood on his notes at cage side as a result of the wild action.

It would take something unbelievable for Erosa and Peterson to not wing Fight of the Night at UFC Fight Night: Hermansson vs Strickland and I expect to see it get heavy consideration for Fight of the Year.
