A United Airlines passenger has gone viral after discovering something unusual with the window next to them.

When a TikToker boarded a United Airlines flight, she didn’t expect anything unusual. But when she tried to open the window, she was met with a shock.

The video, which has amassed 4 million views, shows TikTok user Carls (@carls.inn) sitting in the window seat of a United flight and then pulling a loose window panel to expose a gap. Through the gap, a view of the plane can be seen from the transparent window.

“Ummm @UnitedAirlines is this safe?” an uncertain Carls asks via on-screen text.

In the video description, she adds, “It’s never a good time flying with United Airlines!”

BroBible reached out to Carls via Instagram direct message and United via email.

More Concerned With A Situationship

While some in the comments section were worried about the safety aspect, TikTokers were overwhelmingly interested in one commenter’s situationship. In a comment that has amassed 293,000 likes, user @neals said, “I’m gonna send this [TikTok] to my situationship whose a pilot just so he has a reason to talk to me. So thank you.”

As it turns out, other commenters were very invested.

“Someone update me if Neals’ situationship replies,” one wrote.

“I could send this to my aircraft mechanic husband but I kinda want to know if Neals’ situationship is gonna answer,” a second added.

“My lunch break is over someone tell me if Neals’ situationship ever hits us back,” a third requested.

While a fourth asked, “So Neals did they reply or what, cuz I wanna know too if that is safe.”

Neals then gave the update everyone had been waiting for. Sadly, it wasn’t good news. She had been left on read.

Neals’ story had such an impact on the original clip, Carls couldn’t resist making a joke in a follow-up TikTok. In it, she shared the same footage with the caption, “Life when Neals’ situationship doesn’t reply.”

How Are Airplane Windows Made?

Airplane windows, as explained by The Points Guy, are made up of three layers. Firstly, there is the outer pane flush with the fuselage. In layman’s terms, this means that the surface of the panel is completely aligned with the main aircraft body.

Secondly, there is the inner pane, which has a tiny hole in it. As previously reported by BroBible, this hole plays an important role. It allows air pressure to enter the gap between the middle and outer panel. So, if the outer panel breaks, the middle panel acts as a fail-safe. In the event a breakage happens, the hole would only let a small amount of air through. This means that there is no getting sucked out of airplane windows.

As for the third, outer layer, that is a thinner pane known as a scratch pane. This website also notes that airline windows aren’t made of glass. They’re made of stretched acrylic. This makes them extremely durable. Window pane or not, the setup of these windows ensures passengers can remain safe.
