Woman Keeps Seeing ‘Unknown Creature’ On Patio Ceiling. Then She Finally Captures It On Video: ‘Girl Call Ed And Lorraine Warren’

Have you ever seen something that you just can’t explain?

If you have, you’re not alone. A November 2025 YouGov poll found that over 20% of Americans claim to have seen something they believed to be a UFO. Not only that, but a Pew Research survey states that 18% of Americans claimed they had either been in the presence of, or personally seen, a ghost.

Sometimes, these sightings have a fairly innocent explanation. For example, after the U.S. government released videos of mysterious objects found floating in the sky, researchers from Bellingcat found that one of these “anomalies” was likely just a party balloon.

Other times, however, these odd sightings can leave one scratching their head. For example, this woman says her house was terrorized by an “unknown creature”—and viewers don’t like the parts of it they can see.

What’s Scratching Woman’s House?

In a video with over 23.8 million views, TikTok user Jem Calobrace (@jemcalobrace) writes, “Finally, I caught the unknown creature that was hiding in our ceiling and had remained a mystery for months.”

The video appears to show the ceiling of a patio. After a few seconds, what appears to be a dark black hand reaches down from the ceiling. The hand makes a few slight movements, then shoots back into the ceiling.

Immediately, commenters were terrified.

“Girl thats the babadook,” wrote a user.

“And my house would be for sale the next day,” stated another.

“Sooo why are we just recording and not calling the police,” questioned a third.

So, what is this creature?

An Explanation Emerges

Looking more carefully at the video, it’s clear that there’s something amiss with the perspective. While not intentionally deceptive, the framing makes the hand look much larger than it actually is. Accounting for this, the answer becomes clear: It’s a darn raccoon.

As shown in several follow-up videos, Calobrace’s house contained several raccoons. One of the raccoons, which Calobrace dubs the mother, was fairly large—explaining the relatively large size of the hand in the previous video.

In one of the follow-up videos, she explains how this whole situation came to pass.

“For three months, we had been hearing scratching noises, and there was a terrible urine smell we couldn’t trace,” she explains. “That day, I was home alone when my Ring camera kept sending motion alerts. I checked multiple times, but there was nothing.”

“Then, I heard the loud scratching again,” she continues. “At first, I thought it might be a neighbor doing maintenance, but it wouldn’t stop. I went outside to check what was really going on and realized the sound was coming from the soffit ceiling, and part of the ceiling was actually moving.”

It was at this time that she recorded the original video.

Concerned, the TikToker reached out to maintenance. After several days, they came and opened the ceiling. Soon after, “about six to seven” raccoons were recorded leaving her ceiling.

It’s A Common Mistake

Many commenters suspected something more was going on. Funny enough, this sort of confusion has happened many, many times before.

For example, back in 2021, a Virginia couple called the police after hearing strange sounds in their home. After finding no signs of forced entry, the police searched the property—and found a raccoon.

In another case, Colorado residents were shocked after a mysterious creature was caught being aggressive on camera. While some insisted it was a new, yet-undiscovered animal, wildlife experts said the beast was likely just a raccoon with mange.

So, if you hear something batting around in your attic, it might not be a masked intruder—at least, not a human one.
