An officer in Utah has gone viral for tackling a pig that had gotten loose in Grantsville and was running wild for two days along with another lost hog.

Granstville is a town due west of Salt Lake City that’s situated just south of the Great Salt Lake itself, not too far from the Utah Motorsports Campus that’s a pretty cool race track to check out if you ever happen to be in the area, but I digress. There were reports of two pigs/hogs that had gotten loose and were running hogwild for two days.

The owner never came forward to claim the (presumed) pet pigs. Possibly because they’ve seen the viral video of a police officer splaying out to tackle the lost pig and carry it to his patrol car while he had his sidearm and taser both holstered. I mention those because it seems a bit risky to tackle a wild animal with a pistol on your hip but all’s well that ends well, right?

The video has blown up on both YouTube Shorts and TikTok where it has amassed a few million views over the weekend:

The comments are excellent. One person joked “As a former cop I can confirm, this is how we recruit new guys.” And everyone seemed to take notice of the pig’s squealing. Someone said “the scream.. like he’s being kidnapped.”

Others also took notice of the cop’s tackling form. Someone commented “That’s no cop… That’s a country boy with a badge!” Another person commented “Guy definitely was a champion linebacker in high school.

The same clip can be seen on TikTok, if that’s preferred over YouTube Shorts (I like to offer multiple options):

According to local news KUTV, the two lost pigs were taken to a local animal rescue office as everyone awaited the owner to come forward and admit they’d lost their frolicking pigs.

There were, of course, a lot of people making jokes about the Utah Officer tackling the pig that weren’t worth including here. He made an athletic tackle and captured someone’s lost pet but everyone had the low hanging fruit ‘pig jokes’ in the TikTok comments. Do better.
