Wild video shows a freight train carrying automobiles derailing and hitting a bridge near the Padres’ Petco Park in San Diego. Harbor Police and BNSF Railway reported that no one sustained injuries and no hazardous materials spilled.

The train accident occurred on the BNSF Railway, which runs beneath Harbor Drive, just south of Park Boulevard. At least three rail cars carrying automobiles toppled over, according to footage of the frightening scene released late on Sunday.

The derailment blocked Harbor Drive in both directions. Harbor Police told CBS 9 News that the road had to be closed because of the train wreck. San Diego Police also reported that because of the accident, a concrete barrier blocked all northbound vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic.

At least one derailed train car struck a bridge pillar

According to San Diego Harbor Police, at least one derailed train car may force the closure of Harbor Drive in Barrio Logan for one to two weeks because it collided with a bridge pillar.

The City of San Diego stated in a social media post that it is “conducting structural assessments to the elevated roadway above the train tracks to determine needed repairs.” According to BNSF Railway, investigators are examining the cause of the incident.

The road closure coincided with the San Diego Padres’ Sunday afternoon game against the New York Mets at nearby Petco Park. Authorities advised fans traveling to Padres games to find alternate routes.
