Server Hannah Schmidt (@hannah__lynn16) has gone viral after sharing how a couple included her in a bizarre chain of events.

A Virginia server thought she was witnessing a first date go spectacularly wrong when a woman pulled her aside and revealed that the man sitting across from her was married. But as the drama unfolded, she discovered that things were far more complex than she realized, and what happened next left her speechless.

“I’ve been a server for six years. Let me tell you about the most awkward experience I’ve ever had working in a restaurant,” Hannah Schmidt (@hannah__lynn16) begins.

She then explains that a man came in and sat down, telling her he was on a first date. He ordered himself a drink and his date a strawberry margarita. Schmidt was about to put the order in when he stopped her and told her to cancel it, seeing as he wasn’t certain his date would want it. Schmidt said OK and served him his drink.

Twenty minutes later, the woman arrived and ordered a strawberry margarita. The server recalled how she joked that the man was right all along. But the man looked at her in a way that suggested she wasn’t meant to say that.

Still, Schmidt says she brought the woman her strawberry margarita. Then, the woman stopped her, explaining that this man didn’t tell her he was married and that she’d like to pay her tab and leave.

“Can you imagine the look on my face?” asks the server.

The Server Takes The Woman’s Side… At First

“So I am dogging this man, OK?” she continues. “I am all on her side. I’m like, ‘You shouldn’t even pay for your margarita. You should make him pay. And you should just walk out.”

The woman, the server continues, paid for her drink and left 10 minutes later, leaving Schmidt unsure of how to treat the man… though not for long.

Because the woman then returned to the restaurant, only for the pair to start arguing by the toilet and returning to the table together. Schmidt is then hit with a bombshell. As it turns out, they’ve been married for 20 years. And this was a foreplay thing.

“Could you have let me know that? Could you have informed me of what was going on? Because I just dogged this man, thinking that he was a scumbag for going on a date with you, when he was actually married to you,” the server proclaims.

“And then they sat at my table for two hours, and I didn’t know how to act. Im like, I’m all for you guys having fun in your relationship. But leave me out of it next time. Please, thank you.”

The video garnered 655,800 views.

The Server Got Dragged Into The Couple’s Role-Play

Commenters had differing opinions.

One said, “Lowkey that’s an unconsensual kink they just forced you into playing into.”

“You were an unpaid actress,” a second joked.

“Girl I wish you didn’t fell bad, that’s on them with that weird ish,” a third wrote.

Others were critical of the TikToker’s approach.

“As a server, we are there to serve not to judge. I don’t care what people tell me, it’s poker face and ‘Absolutely, Sir’ to every request,” a fourth pointed out. “I don’t give AF about their story or their situation, I’m there for their money.”

And a fifth chimed in to say, “I understand what the man did is wrong but at the end of the day, do your job and be a professional get out your damn feelings when it comes to a customer.”

Can Pretending To Be Strangers Help A Relationship?

It is actually pretty common for couples to pretend to be strangers. For many, it is the perfect way to bring the spark back to their relationship. However, over on Reddit, users were divided on the role-play. Users shared their views in the comment section of a post on the r/FemaleDatingStrategy subreddit.

“I would like to know the pros and cons of this because even though they aren’t cheating with other people. I have this feeling that it isn’t really that healthy,” the Redditor wrote. “Yes, it is exciting and adventurous. But it’s like you are disconnecting yourself from yourself and being a new person. Like what happens if the SO prefers the new version of you?”

Some felt it was okay.

“A lot of people here are going to be against the idea itself, so let me say this: if you and your partner are both interested, go for it. Your sex life is between you two,” one commented.

They later added, “I think the idea of courting your SO from scratch all over again sounds fun, if that’s what makes you happy. If you want to be Wendy the Cowgirl at the bar for a night? Go for it girl. But at the end of the night, he should be holding you and saying your name as you go to bed, not Wendy.”

“It’s weird to pretend to be cheating on each other with each other but otherwise, I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with reminiscing about when you first met in 2004 or whatever,” a second said.

“I’ve always found it charming when my husband wanders up to me at a grocery store after I’ve gone to grab something in a different aisle and hits on me by asking me what I’m doing later that night and if I’ve got a boyfriend. It’s playful and reminds me of when we first got together, except he’s infinitely smoother now, haha.”

Some People Find The Role-Play Uncomfortable

“What’s the point?” a third asked. “It just sounds rather juvenile. I’m not sure why you need to play games to have sex with someone that you love and who loves you. Just go out dancing or to a concert or a romantic dinner instead. Sounds more fun.”

While a fourth remarked, “I mean it’s their life but I’m concerned about the mentality. Why are they turned on by cheating? I get pretending to be strangers and then getting together, but pretending to cheat? That’s off-putting, and they have too much free time imo.”
