You typically don’t have to spend too much time scrolling through your social media platform of choice in this day and age before stumbling across one of the ever-popular menu “hacks” that routinely take the likes of Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok by storm.

That includes the many restaurant chains at the center of videos concerning creative ways to take your ordering game to the next level. Some of those brands have even embraced those workarounds—like McDonald’s, which temporarily added four of its most popular “unofficial” items to its roster last year.

However, there are also some spots that are not here for the headaches those viral sensations can cause.

That includes Waffle House, which shouldn’t be a huge surprise to literally anyone who has ever stepped foot inside a Waffle House. The iconic late-night oasis that was the subject of Anthony Bourdain’s glowing praise is known for a number of things—primarily greasy breakfast food, staying open during hurricanes, and serving as the backdrop for countless fight videos—but “happily accommodating custom requests” isn’t really one of them.

Some people are learning that the hard way thanks to a viral hack involving a breakfast sandwich that features eggs, cheese, and a variety of meat stuff between two waffles.

While you can theoretically assemble the sandwich yourself by ordering the requisite ingredients, a number of customers who’ve made the trek to Waffle House have recently started to try to cut out the middleman by asking the folks in the kitchen to whip it up for them.

However, plenty of Waffle House employees are not having that. At least one location posted a sign calling out the offending item while informing customers “We’re not making nothing you’ve seen on TikTok,” and Twitter is filled with people who claim servers have swiftly shut down their requests.

One of those workers also posted a TikTok of her own where she warned anyone who ordered the breakfast sandwich would likely be charged $20 for the privilege while suggest some more moderately priced alternatives.

At the end of the day, it might not hurt to try your luck. With that said, based on literally everything we know about Waffle House, don’t expect them to bend over backward to make you happy.
