Kentucky Man Goes To Home Depot For Special Edition WD-40 Cans. Then He Takes A Look At The ‘King Of The Hill’-Themed Display

A Kentucky man went on the hunt for a special edition of WD-40 exclusively available at Home Depot. Then, when he arrived at the store, he realized it had displays for the collaboration, but no special products.

Tom Pitt (@tompitt0) said he was expecting to see “King of the Hill”-themed WD-40 cans at a store in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He went to the location on June 1, the day the collaboration dropped. However, he saw no collectibles. Instead, he realized the display had regular versions of WD-40; not special-edition cans. He posted a video with more than 184,000 views and said the location “dropped the ball.

What Product Was He Looking For?

Pitt went to Home Depot for a specific product: special-edition cans of WD-40.

WD-40, which stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula, is a multi-use petroleum-based solvent that’s primarily used as a lubricant. Since 1953, it’s been a mainstay in many homes. This is because it can dissolve adhesive residues, lubricate hinges, and even clean certain home products.

The product is also well known in the “King of the Hill” fandom, as one of the most popular bits in the show centers around it.

In the second season of the original 1998 television show, there’s a moment where the show’s protagonist, Hank Hill, tries to open a can of WD-40 to lubricate a door. The television character struggles, so he whips out a mini can of WD-40 from the holster on his belt to open the first can.

That moment became an iconic reference, even after the show ended.

Then, the show got rebooted in 2025 after years of speculation with season 14. The season was a hit once again.

When season 15 of the show came in 2026, so did a collaboration with WD-40 to create a “collectible version of its classic multi-use product.”

The “King of the Hill” version of the product is only available at Home Depot from June 1 to August 31.

Why Wasn’t It At Home Depot?

When Pitt went to his local Home Depot store on June 1, he was expecting to find the branded cans.

“It’s June 1 and I’m here at the Home Depot because they’re supposed to have the ‘King of the Hill’ WD-40 cans. They’re supposed to drop today,” Pitt said.

When he went inside the store, he discovered the branded display. But as he walked toward it and picked up a can, he showed his audience that the cans weren’t branded with the show’s iconic fence or logo.

“Now, if you don’t have it, or more likely you sold out of 1,100 cans of it, that’s fine, but take down the point of sale. Don’t leave it up there,” Pitt said.

@The Home Depot the Elizabethtown, KY location dropped the ball. Buckley in there asked how it was any different from what they had. I just wanted my @King of The Hill can of @WD-40 Brand USA. #wd40 #koth #hankhill

WD-40’s Response

Pitt expressed disappointment that his specific location didn’t have any special WD-40 cans. However, he did end up getting a response from WD-40 Brand USA.

The company responded to the post in Pitt’s comments, saying, “Hwat! We are sorry about this. It’s day one, so there shouldn’t be any sell-out issues, likely just a mistake. Please send us a DM with the store information so we can work with The Home Depot to resolve this.”

Pitt posted a video of his “King of the Hill” gear. There, he revealed he did end up getting a can of the special edition WD-40.
