Whats New On HBO Max In August

Warner Bros. / HBO / Fox Searchlight Pictures

We truly are living in the golden age of television, aren’t we? There are more good shows and movies available now than ever before in history. And it’s all thanks to our favorite online streaming services.

Speaking of our favorite online streaming services, here’s what’s new for the month of August 2020 on HBO Max.

Max Originals debuting in the month include Selena + Chef, an unscripted 10-episode cooking series starring and executive produced by Selena Gomez, comedy film An American Pickle, starring Seth Rogen as Herschel Greenbaum, a struggling laborer who immigrated to America in 1919 with dreams of building a better life for his beloved family, Ravi Patel’s Pursuit of Happiness, a four-part docuseries following Patel’s travels to regions worldwide for cultural explanation and discussion, documentary Class Action Park, and the second season finale of the DC Universe fan-favorite Doom Patrol.

New films including Batman, Blade Runner: The Final Cut, Elf, Kung Fu Panda, Ocean’s Eleven, and Wedding Crashers will arrive on HBO Max in August. A selection of programming featured in HBO Max’s Last Chance to Watch section will include the Harry Potter films, Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Kill Bill: Volume 2, Full Metal Jacket, and You’ve Got Mail.

HBO Originals debuting this August includes the new drama series Lovecraft Country, which follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he journeys with his childhood friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett) and his uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) on a road trip from Chicago across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father Montrose (Michael K. Williams). The documentary premiere of Yusuf Hawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn, which tells the story of a black teenager who was murdered in 1989 by a group of young white men in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, also debuts this month. To top it off, the season finale of the hit drama series Perry Mason, the docu-series finale of I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, and the finale of I May Destroy You will be available to stream on the platform.

Blockbuster films including Jojo Rabbit, Richard Jewell, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), and Walk the Line will join the HBO service this month. August will also be your last chance to watch Love Actually, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, The Adjustment Bureau, and The Spongebob Squarepants Movie before they depart the service.
