Everybody has their own unique hobbies. But for one man, a two-day hunting trip had surprising consequences for his relationship.
The footage, originally posted on Snapchat, was later shared on TikTok by content creator Shawnda (@lifecoachshawn).
The video depicts the man in question walking into his home as mournful country music plays in the background. As he gave viewers the tour of his spotless home, he revealed his heartbreak via on-screen text. This included multiple “broken heart” emoji.
Hot Take
“I’m literally mind blown,” he wrote. “Go on a two-day duck hunt to come home to a cleaned out house.”
In her response video, Shawnda begins by reading the comments on the original post.
She noted that there were two types of commenters. The first type was those who faced similar heartbreak. They urged the man to hold himself accountable, see the pattern of behavior, and recognize his shortcomings, as “women don’t just up and leave.”
The second type was those who failed to see anything wrong with the man’s behavior and were equally as confused as the original poster.
Blasting these commenters, Shawna said, “When men say it came out of nowhere. That is proof that they were not listening. A lot of these men don’t hear you until you leave.”
She then referred to the song choice in the video, which included lyrics about promising to change if they get “one last chance.”
“I bet she gave you one more chance about 10 chances ago,” she noted. “What I appreciate is the honesty and the transparency of the men saying ‘women don’t just up and leave good men.’ Sir, what did you do?”
“The men that hate the kind of content that I make are the kind of men that I’m warning women about,” she added. “They’re the men that weaponize their incompetence. They’re not fully present husbands and fathers, and they hate being called out for their bad behavior.”
“If you never want to end up at a situation like this, where you come home and your wife and kids are gone, you might want to start listening to that woman who’s been complaining about something, who’s been asking you to change something. You may not know it, but you might already be on your last chance.”
What Do Commenters Think?
In the comments, users were encouraged by the fact that men in the original post comments were holding OP accountable.
“I think this might be my new kink,” one wrote. “Men holding men accountable.”
“THANK YOU to men holding men accountable,” another echoed.
While a third added, “Yassss men holding men accountable is such a green flag.”
Elsewhere, a fourth commenter also took the woman’s side, writing, “She didn’t ‘clean out the house,’ she took what she needed and left him both a clean house and a LESSON.”
The video amassed 2.1 million views.
The Role Of Communication In Relationships
A 2021 study by Lancaster University found the most common breakup cause among partners.
With the help of natural language processing methods, the research team got data from over 184,000 users who anonymously posted relationship issues on online forums. From there, the researchers were able to determine some of the most common themes and, in turn, the most common relationship problems.
Of all the issues, communication was found to be the most common breakup cause, with almost 1 in 5 saying that they struggled with discussing problems.
So, what’s the key to a happy marriage? Fundamentally, there seems to be a communication gap between men and women. This suggests that men tend to be more blindsided by breakups than women. By being active in communication from the very first date, relationships wouldn’t get to the point where a partner leaves without them knowing why.
