Whether it be because people were still mad at him for what he did at the Academy Awards or because it just wasn’t a very good movie, not many people saw Will Smith’s 2022 film Emancipation.

That’s particularly tough for Smith, as the Academy Award-winning actor recently revealed that he actually got himself stuck in real slave chains during the making of the film. He also says, however, that he believes he “went too far.”

“I went too far in Emancipation,” Smith said on a recent episode of Kevin Hart’s talk show Hart to Heart, which stream on Peacock.

“Just bringing it up, I start to get teary. I wanted to feel the degradation of slavery, and I went too far in. That level of human brutality… I had the chains on my neck and we were working. I wanted the real weight of them. I wanted real chains. They put it on my neck and they were fitting it for size and the prop master went to put the key in and it didn’t work.”

While Smith has been laying low since the Chris Rock incident, the 54-year-old is still attached to a bevy of projects, including Bad Boys 4, which is set to release next summer.

Currently, Smith is also linked to projects such as The Council, Fast and Loose, and a remake o Planes, Trains & Automobiles with Kevin Hart. There have also been rumors of him starring in a sequel to I Am Legend alongside Michael B. Jordan.
