Daisy Ridley Shared Some New Details On Luke Skywalker’s Role In The Next ‘Star Wars’ Film

The first look at Star Wars: Episode VIII was released a couple of weeks ago, but it didn’t shed a whole lot of details on the next film in the legendary saga. (Video below.)

However now, thanks to Daisy Ridley who gave an interview at the Oscars with MTV News, we now have a bit more insight on both how Star Wars: Episode VIII will begin as well as Luke Skywalker’s role in the film.

“It’s two hours of me and Mark Hamill staring at each other,” Ridley deadpanned to MTV News on the Oscars red carpet Sunday.

Turning slightly more serious, Ridley said she and Hamill “have been rehearsing a lot, and it’s really amazing.” She also seemed to confirm rumors that Episode VIII will pick up right where The Force Awakens left off, with Rey (Ridley) and Luke coming face to face on the remote planet of Ahch-To (a.k.a. Ireland’s Skellig Michael).

“When we went back to Skellig to do the opening of VIII, it was so crazy doing the same scene with a different crew of people,” Ridley said. “[Hamill is] amazing to rehearse with, and I’m very excited to be doing the rest of the stuff. It’s such a good story, seriously.”

Ridley also pointed that “Luke is so cool in this one.” As if he somehow wouldn’t be. Pffft.

One of the biggest complaints about Star Wars: Episode VII was the almost complete lack of screen time for Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. Sounds like that won’t be a problem during Episode VIII.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
