If you’ve read anything about the history of the plans for a post-Return of the Jedi trilogy, you know it was always Harrison Ford who was most reticent to return to the Star Wars galaxy.
While both Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill were eager to reprise their roles as Skywalkers, Ford thought the Solo character was done for him.
You know what can change a man’s mind?
A lot of money. A lot of fucking money.
Which Harrison got.
When all is said and done, Ford could rake in $34 million for his scenes as Solo. From The Guardian:
Ford’s galactic payday is based on a $25m upfront payment – placing the 73-year-old star in the very top echelon of Hollywood earners – backed up by a 0.5% share of the film’s gross earnings, which could be worth another $9m if the film hits $2bn at the global box office.
Daisy Ridley and John Boyega both received $450,000 for their efforts, which, while seemingly paltry, blows away Ford’s $10,000 salary he got for the first one.
