Jim Carrey Fires Back At Claims He Supplied Drugs That Killed His Ex-Girlfriend And Covered It Up

On Monday we brought you a report that Mike Burton, the husband of Jim Carrey’s ex-girlfriend Cathriona White, was suing Carrey, alleging that he provided her with the drugs that she used to kill herself and then tried to hide it.

The suit claims that Carrey used a fake name to purchase the drugs and provided them to her knowing that she had psychological issues and that he later tried to cover it up with texts to her phone after her death making it appear as if she may have taken them from him without his knowledge. (You can read the entire thing here.)

Now, Jim Carrey is fighting back against these charges and released the following statement…

“What a shame. It would be easy for me to get back in a room with this man’s lawyer and make this go away, but there are moments in life when you have to stand up and defend your honor against the evil in this world. I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved,” Carey said in a statement to Us Weekly Monday, September 19. “Cat’s troubles were born long before I met her, and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone’s control. I really hope someday soon people will stop trying to profit from this and let her rest in peace.”

Carrey’s lawyer also released his own take on the matter…

Carrey’s lawyer, Marty Singer, told Us in a statement, “Jim never supplied his prescription medications to Ms. White.” He also added that the Dumb and Dumber To star’s prescriptions were “legally obtained medications that were prescribed to him by his doctor,” and that the actor would “vigorously fight” the lawsuit.

TMZ also spoke to the lawyer who had this to say…

His attorney also insinuates White and Burton were in a sham marriage so she would not be deported back to Ireland. Singer says the 2 didn’t even live together, so the notion he suffered a loss of companionship is absurd.

Singer calls the lawsuit “a money-grab scheme.”

Seems like a pretty shitty way to try to make money if the claims are fabricated so now we know that at least one of the two parties involved here is most definitely a scumbag. The only question really to be answered is, which one?
