By all accounts Mel Gibson was a surprise guest at the Mad Max: Fury Road premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday. Whether this was engineered behind the scenes as a surprise or whether Mel Gibson just took it upon himself to show up, I’m not totally clear.
What I am clear on is that (1) Tom Hardy didn’t look too thrilled in the photographs I’ve seen, and (2) Mel Gibson appeared to be in full Mel Gibson mode based on the photos that were snapped of him below.
Here was Hardy’s comment on Mel’s sudden appearance via Us Weekly: “It’s great to have Mel here. I didn’t expect him to come. When I got the part, it was good, but suddenly it struck me, ‘Oh, shit, everybody loves Mel. And I’m the new kid, and they’re going to hate me. So I suck already and I haven’t even started.'”
Way to work it, Tom. Very smooooooth.
