Netflix Announces A New ‘Punisher’ Series Is Coming With An Ominous Teaser Video

Terrific news today for fans of the Netflix superhero series Daredevil” you’re getting another Marvel series starring one of Daredevil’s coolest characters in season two, The Punisher.

Jon Bernthal will return to play Frank Castle and E! News reports that writer/executive producer Steve Lightfoot from Hannibal will serve as the series’ showrunner.

“We want to thank the fans who are clamoring for more of Jon’s stunning and powerful performance as Frank Castle from Marvel’s Daredevil,” Jeph Loeb, executive producer and head of Marvel Television, said in a statement. “Now combined with showrunner Steve Lightfoot’s compelling writing, we’re thrilled to bring Marvel’s The Punisher to Netflix.”

“For me, the complexity and unpredictability of Frank Castle make him an incredibly compelling character and I couldn’t be more excited to dive into his world,” Lightfoot said in a statement. “After watching Jon’s performance in Marvel’s Daredevil I could not be more excited to be working with him to further develop and progress the story of this anti-hero in a show of his own.”

This series will be Netflix’s sixth featuring Marvel comic book characters including Luke Cage (which premieres September 30th), Daredevil, Jessica Jones, as well as Iron Fist and The Defenders which are in various stages of development.

No word yet on a possible premiere date, nor if Frank Castle will expand his targets to outside of Hell’s Kitchen. Because with Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage all doing their thing The Kitchen is starting to get a little bit crowded with superheroes.
