We were all too busy talking about the DVD/Blu-Ray release Star Wars: The Force Awakens to realize that the first world trailer was about to drop for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the next film in the Star Wars franchise. This is a completely standalone film within the film series and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story takes place outside of the normal set of characters we’ve all come to know over the years.
After watching this trailer I’m convinced that this might be a great thing. The plot centers around a group of rebel spies who are attempting to steal the building plans for the Death Star:
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be produced by Lucasfilm, George Lucas’ studio, so it’s a return to having George Lucas at the helm. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will hit theaters this Christmas season on December 16th, 2016. I’m not sure if this one’s going to completely destroy box office records in the same way that The Force Awakens did but with a Christmas release I expect this movie to take home hundreds of millions of dollars.
