Will Ferrell Opened ‘SNL’ As George W. Bush Announcing His 2016 Presidential Campaign

In the 41-year history of Saturday Night Live, “Strategery” is probably one of the best single words uttered for a laugh on the show. Will Ferrell’s impression of America’s favorite brush-clearing Commander-In-Chief, George W. Bush, was the best.

15 years later, the chaotic and comical 2000 election cycle seems straight up trivial compared to the kabuki theater of the 2016 GOP race. So last night, Will Ferrell returned to SNL to cold open the show as George W. Bush wanting to throw his proverbial hat back in the ring. Good ole #43 calls Trump a “fat orange oompa loompa” and thinks Cruz and Rubio is a Miami-based personal injury law firm.

Most of all, I love that he wants to go “mission accomplished” on the twenty-second amendment.Compared to the rhetoric of the 2016 campaign, Dubya’s Bush-isms are a welcome reprieve.

It’s great to have you back, Dubya.
