Summer 2017 is shaping up to be the summer of Calvin Harris, a DJ on a quest to own “song of the summer” status with his last two drops. “Slide” — his jam with Migos and Frank Ocean — felt like the type of pop anthem you’d throw on sipping bucket margaritas by the beach with friends. He doubled downed on the breezy jams for “Heatstroke”, his collaboration with Young Thug, Pharrell, and Ariana Grande.
“Heatstoke” is like a modern ’70s California yacht rock record. Think Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”, but with Thug running away with the lead out of the gate.
It’s a damn good pop jam.
