Joey Bada$$ Responds to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘King of New York’ Statement with ‘Killuminati Pt. 2’

Now—not a moment too soon—comes the kid on the New York scene, 18-year-old Joey Bada$$, to finally deliver his response. Joey updates his 1999 mixtape jam “Killuminati” with “Killuminati Pt. 2,” only this verse is much gruffer than the original, smooth track: Joey sounds genuinely angry that a Compton kid declared himself KONY. “Fuck what the media write, bitch, this is a firebomb/Please don't leave your comment if you are not up to par/No names putting you in the verse is too far.”

He also draws a lineage between the other New York greats in the song's chorus, saying, “But fuck it I'm Biggie I'm [Big] L I'm [Big] Pun/I'm God's Son [Nas] I'm Pac, Guru all in one.”

This is all awesome for rap, obviously. And it's insanely fun to see where this war of words and friendly competition ultimately takes the genre. Keep raising the bar
