Keith Richards Says He Still Wakes And Bakes At 71-Years-Old

Rolling Stones lead guitarist Keith Richards is arguably one of the most famous figures in Rock ‘n’ Roll lore; not just because his masterful licks most commonly coming from an infamous blonde Fender Telecaster, but also for his outright, unabashed rock star attitude on display at all times.

With that attitude comes – and it’s been well documented – ingesting an unfathomable amount of hard drugs in between studio sessions, during concerts, and of course, while bedding women. In Richards’ eyes, the drug use often spurned creativity – something that is certainly essential to being in one of the world’s most famous rock bands for more than five decades now.

But at 71-years-old, Keith Richards has finally slowed his role just a bit, and has given the hard stuff up in recent years in lieu of “just a little weed, a little wine.”

In a recent interview with MOJO Magazine, Keith Richards all but confirmed he regularly partakes in the glorified stoner habit of waking and baking. Because, why not? Seems like a cakewalk when you take Richards’ past habits into consideration. Plus, gotta get your mind right in the morning before you eat breakfast, right!?

UPROXX reports:

On a recent press tour for his upcoming album, Crosseyed Heart, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards told Mojo magazine: “I smoke regularly, an early morning joint. Strictly Californian,” a ritual he’s been partaking in much before it was a thing, no doubt.

“One of the most pleasant things to watch is a map of America where it goes, green… green… green. Whether it’s a good thing in the long run, I don’t know,” he said, in a cover story titled “Keef.”

MOJO’s Keith Richards article is on newsstands now:

“”

And the Rolling Stones lick-man even summoned up a little Winston Churchill philosophy when discussing his prior affection for hard drugs and where he stands on them now looking back.

Speaking candidly, he told the magazine, “It’s like Churchill said about alcohol, ‘Believe me – I’ve taken a lot more out of alcohol than it’s ever taken out of me!’ And I kind of feel the same way about the dope and stuff. I got something out of it.”

Ahhh, a true optimist through and through. Easy to understand why when you’ve that sold some 200 million records worldwide and been a part of the 2nd highest grossing tour of all-time.

Rock on, Keef.
