Mumford & Sons, Vampire Weekend to Headline Lollapalooza

From the Chicago Tribune:

Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend and the Killers will be among the headliners for Lollapalooza in Grant Park on Aug. 2-4.

Also confirmed by multiple industry sources are the National and the Postal Service (a reunion of Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello on the 10-year anniversary of their million-selling debut, “Give Up”). Lollapalooza promoters C3 Presents said it would officially announce the lineup next month. “Early bird” tickets for the festival go on sale next Tuesday.

Lollapalooza, which relaunched in 2005 as a destination festival in Chicago, has become increasingly successful, consistently selling out 270,000 tickets over three days in recent years. The festival is expected to have a similar format to last year, with more than 100 artists arrayed on eight stages over three days.

Did the Grant Park neighbors complain about noise? Last year's event featured Black Sabbath, the Black Keys, Jack White, and the Chili Peppers. Things are going decidely indier and less loud this year—Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, and Vampire Weekend are all enjoyable bands, but none are really known for blowing the house down. (There's a Windy City joke in there somewhere, but it's tournament day and I'm too distracted to make it.)

Regardless, the eclectic rockers will perform on August 2-4.
