I wanted to kick it off today with one of the most interesting whiskeys to come across my palate in years, Coalition Whiskey’s 100% Rye Kentucky Straight Whiskey [$89] that is finished in Sauternes barrels. The first thing that caught my attention about this release wasn’t even the whiskey, it’s the iconic Art Deco bottles that look like the crystal decanters I remember at my grandma’s house as a kid. I’m a sucker for appearances and while the bottle caught my attention it’s what’s under the cork that really blew me away.
Coalition Whiskey is a new company founded by the former Russian Standard USA CEO, the owner of the Kentucky Artisan Distillery, and a 20+ year veteran wine maker. These three industry experts came together to produce an out of this world line of 100% Rye Whiskey finished in Bordeaux wine barrels. There are three expressions in total but the one featured here is finished in Sauternes Barriques. It has a deep amber color and it’s booming with apricot, vanilla, and caramel on the nose. The smooth palate offers up perfectly layered hints of toffee, dried fruit, and almond. The Lems Shoes Boulder Boots [$125] is one of the best boots out there in terms of versatility. I tend to think of these as a cross between everyday boots and travel boots because they’re actually packable (you can roll them up) but they’re truly rugged enough to withstand anything and everything you throw their way. Boots are a staple of your everydy carry essentials and these are made with wind- and water-resistant 1200 denier nylon uppers and the LemsRubber air-injected rubber outsole that’s softer, lighter and more flexible than traditional rubber.
The Free Fly Bamboo Flex Henley [$69] here is in Heather Adobe Red but it comes in three other colors. This is a classic 3-button henley style and the flex weight bamboo fabric offers insulation and temperature regulation, mobility, and coverage.
You can pair that henley with the Flint and Tinder 365 Pants in Charoal [$98] which comes in fifteen different colors and are perfect everyday pants. The Viski Whiskey Tumbler Set [$23] is quite literally the gold standard in bar glass fabrication. These faceted lead-free crystal whiskey glasses feel damn good in teh hand. They have a solid weight. You pick it up and know it’s meant ofr whiskey drinking. It’s the perfect way to enjoy your bourbon!
The premium Brad Leone Carbon Fiber Puncher Knife [$97, usually $140] is perfect for everyday carry and will last you a LONG time. This knife features an ambidextrous titanium clip, it’s made in the USA, has a liner lock mechanism for secure use, 2.5″ blade made of D2 stainless steel, a black carbon fiber handle, and it only weighs 2.5oz so it won’t ever hold you down.
If you’re like me, you prefer a large ice sphere compared to the ice cubes in your freezer. The Viski Ice Sphere Mold [$20] includes four freezable ice molds. They recommend ~4 hours to freeze the ice molds and the silicone ice shells are easy to remove. You can also toss in items like citrus slices or herbs to mix up your cocktails.
