Lectric XP Lite3
My wife and I have been riding Lectric XP4s for a few months now. My wife has ridden hers hundreds of miles over the past four months; they’ve become an important part of our Southern California lifestyle, especially for a quick dinner run or an after-work ride by the beach. The last thing you want to think about is how you’ll make it 15 miles home on a 40% charge.
We especially appreciate Lectric’s folding frame. Our home is pretty tiny, and both bikes fit inside without taking up too much space. They’re also great for stashing in my Jeep’s trunk for an out-of-town adventure.
As genuine owners of these state-of-the-art e-bikes, we know this matters: When Lectric announced the new XP Lite3, a lighter take on its folding bike, I paid attention.

The new Lectric XP Lite3 weighs just 49 pounds and folds small enough for a closet. It starts at $799 via LectricBikes.com, and Long-Range models come with free launch accessories for a limited time.
It’s the third generation of the XP Lite, and Lectric made major improvements. Here are the five that stood out to me.
1. It Still Starts At $799
Prices on just about everything keep climbing. Somehow, Lectric kept the XP Lite3 at $799. This is the same starting price as the last version, and you get a lot more bike this time. If you want more range, the XP Lite3 Long-Range is $999.

When we were shopping for our first e-bikes, the sticker shock almost talked us out of it, which is why we bought the XP4 750 Long-Range. The XP Lite3 is even more affordable. It seems well-suited as the ultimate starter bike, and at this price, it makes the decision a lot easier.
2. It Weighs Just 49 Pounds
My XP4 is a sturdy bike, but it’s not light. The XP Lite3 is about 20 pounds lighter, and that makes a big difference when you’re carrying it. Lifting it into a trunk or up a flight of stairs is easy.
Folded, it’s about the size of a large suitcase (36″ x 16″ x 27″). It fits in a closet, under a desk, or in the back of an RV when you want to hit the road without eating up precious coffee-table space.

3. The Brakes Are Seriously Good
Lectric gave the XP Lite3 hydraulic disc brakes with thicker rotors. You usually find those on more expensive bikes. They stop fast and take less effort from your hands.
I ride in LA traffic, where drivers pull out of driveways without looking, and bike paths are heavily trafficked with bikes of all speeds. I’d never give up good brakes. The XP Lite3 also has built-in turn signals, which help a lot in that kind of traffic.
4. It Has A Twist Throttle
A twist grip gives it a fun motorcycle-like riding experience. You twist the grip, and the motor takes over. It’s also incredibly handy for getting moving at a stoplight.
The bike reaches up to 20 mph where your state allows it. The $799 base model is rated for up to 45 miles on a charge. The Long-Range version bumps that to up to 80 miles, though hills and rider weight will affect how much juice you use between charges.

5. You Can Upgrade To A Belt Instead Of A Chain
The XP Lite3 Long-Range is also available with a Gates Carbon Belt Drive for $1,099. A belt never needs oil, so it won’t leave grease on your pants or your floors. If you store your bike inside as we do, this is a real perk.

Bonus: The Colors Are Fun!
The $799 base model comes in Arctic White. The Long-Range adds Blue Mist, Matte Grey, and Matte Lavender. The belt-drive version comes in JW Black and Ballerina Pink. Personally, I’d go with Matte Lavender.
