I wanted to throw The Norden Project on your radar today. They are a Montreal-based clothier with an emphasis on sustainability, style, and detail. ‘The Road Home’ Chapter 3 of Little Book Whiskey Series
Ever since tasting the first Little Book whiskey two years ago I’ve kept my eye on this annual release. Last year’s floored me just as much as the first release and now 8th generation Beam Distiller Booker Noe is back with ‘The Road Home’, the third chapter in the Little Book Whiskey series.
As a new father myself (5mo-old son at home!), the story behind this year’s Little Book release definitely hits home:
“‘The Road Home’ is about going back to your roots – literally and figuratively,” Noe said. “With the birth of my son this year I spent a lot more time at home, reflecting often on family and our legacy. I wanted to create something that honored the legacy and values passed down to me by my family. Whenever I drive down the road to the distillery, the same one my granddaddy Booker drove down, I’m reminded of his adventurous spirit, especially of his creation of the Small Batch Collection in a time when no one was drinking premium bourbon. I like to think he passed that same spirit along to me, which ultimately led me to blending.”
Take a look at this exquisite mixture of spirits and tell me it’s not already one of the best blends of the past decade even without needing to taste it. For this, they’ve combined four of my personal favorites, a blend of 9-year-old Knob Creek Bourbon, 9-year-old Basil Hayden’s Bourbon, 11-year-old Booker’s Bourbon, and 12-year-old Baker’s Bourbon. It clocks in at 122.6-proof that’s rich with vanilla, caramel, and spice. You can sip it neat, over a large ice cube, or with a dropper of water.
The Road Home is available nationwide (if you can find it) for $124.99/bottle in limited quantities. So be sure to keep your eyes peeled for this at your local liquor stores and/or watering holes. You can check out a full press release on this blend right here, and be sure to click that link below for information on where to scoop this up yourself.
The Glenrothes Soleo Collection
For me, this time of year is PRIME single malt scotch drinking weather. Sitting in cozy rooms with miserable weather outside and sipping scotch is how the Scots intended it to be drank. I wanted to throw The Soleo Collection from The Glenrothes on your radar for some single malt inspiration this season.
The Soleo Collection includes The Glenrothes 10-year-old, The Glenrothes 12-year-old, The Glenrothes Whisky Maker’s Cut, The Glenrothes 18-year-old, and The Glenrothes 25-year-old expressions. Each comes with tasting notes and pairing suggestions to help you live your best life. I recently tasted my way through the Soleo Collection and fell in love with the 18-year-old. This is one of my favorite spirits around and I honestly cannot recommend it enough. So just follow that ‘shop now’ link below for more informationon the Soleo Collection and where to pick it up for yourself.
This is just a step up in strength in case you need a little more help getting nice and relaxed while letting your body heal itself with this vegan friendly offering. Get this in your body and let the CBD goodness take care of the rest.
Four Roses + Clyde May’s Whiskey
First up is the Four Roses Small Batch, a masterful blend of four original Bourbon recipes from the Four Roses Master Distiller that come together for a perfectly balanced 90-proof spirit that can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks. It carries oak and caramel on the hose with rich berries and spice on the tongue. The Four Roses Small Batch won a Gold Medal at the 2019 Denver Spirits Competition. You can find this bottle ranging from $26-30.
The Clyde May’s Straight Rye Whiskey is a 94-proof full of florals that has been aged a minimum of 3-years. This is a perfect Rye for mixing up a Manhattan cocktail or drinking straight. Personally, I’ve been on a Rye kick all year and have enjoyed this expression a ton. You’ll find apricot and vanilla on the nose with citrus and cinnamon on the palate. This has a suggested retail price of $44.
Four Roses Single Barrel will run you around $40/bottle and it’s well worth it. This is one of those expressions that punches way above its price point. It clocks in at 100-proof and is full of ripe fruit on the tongue (cherry + plum). The nose is rich with vanilla, maple syrup, and pear. This bottle won a Gold Medal at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2018.
Clyde May’s Alabama Style Whiskey is truly a delight. It’s an 85-proof expression that has been aged 6-to-7 years in oak barrels that is finished with a hint of apple. This is a PERFECT fall spirit for drinking straight or pouring into you apple cider. This was awarded 93-points by Wine Enthusiast and has a nose full of orchard fruits while the palate is rich with pepper and oak.
You can follow any of those links above to visit the distiller’s website and find a local shop that sells these spirits.
25 Best Cigars in the World
This is one of my favorite annual lists, the one where the experts name the finest cigars in the world. Why is it a favorite of mine? Well, unlike sampling fine Wine and rare Bourbon, I genuinely don’t have time to sample 150+ different cigars in a year. My body would f*cking hate me. Honestly, let’s not beat around the bush here. Smoking is not good for you but I’m 100% down with smoking cigars in moderation, every now and then, when the weather’s right, yada yada yada. Whatever I have to tell myself, right?
The experts over at Cigar Aficionado release their list of the ‘Top 25’ cigars in the world each year. If you’re lucky enough like me to have a massive cigar + liquor store around the corner like Total Wine then like me you also appreciate how they list the CA ratings of each cigar in the humidor room. For anyone else out there reading this who shop somewhere that doesn’t list the ratings you can just bookmark the article at the ‘read more’ button below!
