How Much Do You Trust Amazon? Amazon Key Delivery Will Allow Couriers To Unlock Your Doors

Amazon Key Delivery

How much do you trust Amazon? Do you trust them enough to allow them into your home while you’re not there so that the courier can deliver packages? What if that delivery person is on camera the entire time they’re in your home and it’s actually you unlocking the door using your smartphone and not the courier? Does that seem like something you’d be interested in? Because that’s Amazon Key, a new delivery service debuted by Amazon this week, and it’s a radical new approach to how our packages are delivered.

Rumors about Amazon Key began circulating a few weeks ago when it was reported that Amazon was in advanced talks with Phrame, a company which specializes in locks tied to smartphones. Flash forward to this morning and Amazon’s released a video debuting what Amazon Key will look like. You can also purchase your Amazon Key Smart Lock + Cloud Cam bundle starting today.

The idea for Amazon Key is basically this: you have packages that need to be delivered but you’re not home. Packages often disappear when they sit on a front porch or in an apartment lobby for too long and that can cause a lot of problems for both Amazon and customers. With Amazon Key, the customer will have Amazon’s Cloud Cam, a smart camera, set up inside of their home as well as a smart lock on the front door. When the courier shows up to deliver a package they can unlock your smart lock and leave your package just on the inside of the door without ever actually entering your home. And you have your smart camera inside the house to capture it all on film.
