BioLite Headlamp 200 Review: This Headlamp Is The Brightest I’ve Ever Owned

BioLite

A couple months ago, while building an earthquake emergency bag, I bought a pack of cheap headlamps at a wholesale store for a bargain bin price. A couple weeks later, I tried one out while heading for an evening jog in the mountainous park by my house. While fine for providing light in the dark in an emergency, it failed at it’s very simple task: Staying atop my head to keep my hands free while lighting up the night.

If you’ve ever had to pitch a tent in a dark campsite late at night, you know there’s a big difference between a “just OK” headlamp and a truly great headlamp. A truly great headlamp stays lashed to your head, illuminating your immediate field of vision while you go about whatever if is you have to do. A truly great headlamp is effortlessly comfortable, so lightweight that you barely know it’s on your head, nonetheless adding any weight to your pack. It’s waterproof, for those “oops” moments when juggling a fly rod after dusk.

And, of course, a truly great headlamp has battery life that last so long, you forget about when it needs a proper recharge.

BioLite has mastered the headlamp game in recent years, making some of the best headlamps for running, hunting, hiking, and camping. The brand new BioLite Headlamp 200 pushes the category forward, offering a headlamp with USB micro charging for a battery that last up to 40 hours and a truly brilliant 200 lumens light.

It’s now available on Amazon, where it’s getting rave reviews by outdoor junkies like myself for its brightness and lightweight comfort.

Let’s start with comfort: There’s no bounce or slip with BioLite’s 3D SlimFit technology. This LED headlamp fits around your head as comfortably as a great watch feels on your wrist, with performance fabric. It only weighs 50g, so it’s far from cumbersome when strapped around your dome.

A couple other notes about the BioLite Headlamp 200:

  • VISIBLITY: This is a great headlamp for runners since it offers a number of options for the light –  White + Dim , Red + Dim, White Strobe, Red Strobe.
  • The front panel tilts downward with one hand.
  • 40 hours on LO, 3 hours on HIGH. Max Output: 200 lumens
  • Recharge via micro USB – Just use your phone charger or plug it into a portable battery or power bank for juice!

This is what full-brightness looked like at night for the BioLite Headlamp 200. Note that I didn’t apply filter to this pic – Just snapped it while it lit up a pitch black walkway in front of me on a cloudy winter night.

Just gives you an idea of the incredible range of the BioLite HeadLamp 200.
