The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe Has More Power And Style Than It Knows What To Do With
BMW grabbed the attention at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show with their beautifully styled BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe. This wide-bodied concept car that sits on 21-inch wheels features bespoke bumpers, flares, and sill profiles that give this four-door sedan a very sporty look. The M8 Gran Coupe will have three-pronged lower air intakes and four fat tailpipes that are finished in gold. This four-door coupe also has a carbon fiber roof panel.
The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is designed by Domagoj Dukec, who is from Croatia and is in charge of BMW’s i and M sub-brands. “The M cars speak a different body language,” says Dukec. “They display flares and bulges and lips, they run on the biggest wheels and sit closest to the ground, and their proportions are even more emotional.” Dukec’ whose official title in the company is Vice President of Design at BMW, says, “The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe is supposed to stir up, it should polarize – it should move emotionally. With the vehicle we want to reach people who are looking for something special and want to stand out from the crowd. With this vehicle, BMW M unmistakably brings luxury out of the ‘comfort zone.’”
The sporty, yet elegant sedan will be powered by a track-tested 650-horsepower 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine and will probably have an eight-speed auto with paddleshift. The M8 Gran Coupe’s favorable will weigh about 4,000 pounds, have a favorable power-to-weight ratio, and have a top speed of 191 mph with the optional performance package.
“This car stands for a new type of performance-oriented luxury,” explains Dukec. “The warm yellow headlamps are an emotive antithesis to the cold white LEDs with their piercing blue ultra-intensity. The chromaflair paint demonstrates what our individual division is capable of. And the brightwork that isn’t really bright anymore replaces overt bling with a subtle touch of high-quality craftsmanship. Every little detail on this car is like a sculpture, a 3D object, a piece of understated jewelry.” The concept car has a flip-flop paint job that appears metallic green from some angles and blue from other angles. The slightly bichromic paintwork is called “Salève Vert.”
