You’ve never seen a Corvette quite like this before for good reason – there’s never been a Corvette quite like this before. Introducing the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, the most powerful and fastest Corvette of all-time. By all early accounts, this is even the fastest street-legal car that GM has ever produced. On Sunday, Chevrolet finally unveiled the 2019 Corvette ZR1 and it does not disappoint. Not only does this road monster have unheard-of performance, but it is also beautifully styled.
Under the bulging exposed carbon-fiber hood you’ll find a supercharged, 6.2-liter LT5 V-8 engine. That over-the-top powerplant provides an eye-popping 755 horsepower (The C7 Corvette has 650 hp) and 715 lb-ft of torque. This baby has a top speed that exceeds 210 mph. Chevy gets this extra power from previous models thanks to an intercooled 2.65-liter Eaton supercharger with 52 percent more displacement than the one in the Z06, which should solve earlier overheating issues. The new Vette also boasts its first dual fuel direct injection system with supplemental port injection and a 4-inch throttle body which is the largest ever for a Corvette. The new ZR1 offers a seven-speed manual and for the first time ever for a ZR1 it will feature GM’s 8-speed automatic.
It doesn’t just look powerful, it sounds powerful. The ZR1 features a new patent-pending active exhaust system that is said to make this vehicle the loudest Corvette ever. “It’s absolutely brutal in track mode,” according to Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter. Chevy will be offering a Sebring Orange Design Package, which gives you an orange ZR1 with orange brake calipers, rocker and splitter accent stripes, seat belts and interior stitching, with the competition seats, and a bronze aluminum interior trim.
What all of this means is that not only is the 2019 Corvette ZR1 one of the greatest American supercars, but its one of the greatest supercars on the planet. Period. The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 will be available next spring, but Chevy usually only manufactures 2,000 to 3,000 ZR1s a year.
