FIRST LOOK: Mercedes-Benz AMG Project ONE Is An F1-Inspired Road Demon That Melts Roads

You just found your new favorite supercar of your dreams. Introducing the new Mercedez-Benz AMG Project ONE, a marvel of German engineering that will melt roads and your screen because it is so extremely blazing fast. Oh, and it will incinerate your bank account as well because it has a $2.7 million price tag. But if you’re going to purchase a nearly $3 million car than this rocket ship should be on your short list.

The Project ONE is inspired from F1 racing cars and this speed demon provides nearly the same performance and handling as a Formula One vehicle. This hypercar is actually modeled after the Mercedes-Benz F1 race car that Lewis Hamilton is using to lead the 2017 F1 championship. It even features an aerodynamic “shark fin” running down the back of the car much like F1 racers.

The Project ONE is powered by a 1.6-liter V-6 engine mounted behind the rear seats with more than 1,000 horsepower and can hit blazing top speeds of 217 mph. The ONE features four electric motors (one of which drives the turbocharger) pushing power to all four wheels. This speedster offers a complex 8-speed “manual” gearbox allowing for automatic cruising or paddle-shifting. This allows for some insane acceleration to the neck-snapping tune of 0-124 mph in under six seconds. The engine redlines at roughly 11,000 rpm, close to the 15,000 rpm of F1 cars. Despite having racing car specs, this is a street legal vehicle that uses premium gas and not racing fuel, plus you won’t have to change tires every hundred miles or so because this marvelous machine uses Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires (19″ in the front, 20″ in the rear).

The interior of the vehicle is also inspired by Formula One racing with an F1-inspired steering wheel and carbon fiber-clad interior. But it still features comforts you would expect from a consumer automobile including air conditioning, adjustable power seats, smartphone dock, and two 10-inch infotainment screens, including one in between the driver and passenger that functions as a rearview display.

Here is the press release from Mercedes:

“The Mercedes-AMG Project ONE is the first Formula 1 car with MOT approval. Our highly efficient hybrid assembly stems from motor racing and the electrically powered front axle generates a fascinating mixture of performance and efficiency. With a system output of over 1,000 hp and a top speed beyond 217 mph this hypercar handles exactly as it looks: it takes your breath away.”

Get your money ready because only 275 Project ONE hypercars will be made.
