When you think back to being a kid, that order from your mom was usually a reward, not a punishment. It meant you could have some freedom and run around the yard instead of getting on her nerves in the house while she prepared supper.
Many Veterans cringe at the idea of a camping trip after service. My late grandfather, for example, loved traveling and visiting National Parks, but avoided actually camping in them his entire life, telling his outdoor-loving grandkids that the tent he pitched and lived during a winter deployment in Korea was enough camping for a lifetime. Can’t say I blame him for that one.
The Veteran Outdoor Alliance is on a mission to change that attitude in the veteran community. A certified 501(c)(3), the Veteran Outdoor Alliance is more interested in stargazing than star jumps, with a goal of helping Vets find balance in their life and “center the mind, body, and spirit,” as American Grit writes, via some old fashion outdoor outings.
