We love our shoes. This much is very clear. But what if, for once, instead of lining the pockets of giant conglomerates we actually bought some dope new shoes that helped the world in addition to making us look sharp?

Because that is something that we can all actually do.

Recently, I was privileged to learn about a footwear company, Inkkas, that makes some of the coolest handmade, eco-friendly kicks on the planet. And speaking of the planet, Inkkas plants one tree for every purchase as part of the OneShoeOneTree project. So far they have planted more than 124,000 trees as a part of this program.

In partnership with TreesForTheFuture, Inkkas is helping reforest the world to provide sustenance for local populations in developing countries.

In other words, when you buy a pair of their stylish shoes, you also permanently increase the income of poor farmers, provide permanent and seasonal employment, and help families to feed themselves. Win-win!

As for the shoes themselves, Inkkas offers everything from culturally-inspired camping boots to graphic slip-ons, textile infused high-tops and low-tops to the lightest sneaker you can find with striking, colorful prints.

Myself, I have been wearing a pair of their new Galaxy Camping Boots with a Star Wars theme (pictured on the right below).

Not only are they some of the most comfortable hiking boots I’ve worn, they are also some of the most distinct pair of shoes I, and anyone I meet while wearing them, have ever seen.
