Lamborghini has never built a hybrid hypercar, but that is about to change according to a report. Sources have informed The Supercar Blog that Lamborghini is currently working on a very limited hybrid hypercar and it looks bonkers.
According to the report, the new supercar is codenamed “LB48H” and it has already been showcased at a private event in Italy a few weeks ago that a very select and lucky 200 car enthusiasts were privileged enough to attend. The hybrid will be extremely limited with only 63 hypercars being released.
The LB48H will have a hybrid powertrain because you really want to maximize your fuel economy when driving a Lambo. The dual power plants will provide the vehicle with the heart-pumping acceleration that electric vehicles are celebrated over.
Design wise, the LB48H will allegedly resemble Terzo Millennio concept that was unveiled in November of 2017. This land rocket looks bananas with super aggressive styling.
This is the first step towards an all-electric Lamborghini, something that won’t happen for many years. “I don’t think that the technology for a full electric Lamborghini will be ready until 2026,” said Lamborghini’s Research and Development Director Maurizio Reggiani. “Hybrids are a step towards that.” Lamborghini’s replacement for the Aventador is supposed to hit showrooms in 2020.
The Italian automaker is expected to flaunt the Lamborghini LB48H in New York and Tokyo very soon. The hybrid Lambo will go into production later this year and deliveries starting at the end of 2019. Despite an exorbitant price tag of around $2.5 million, these limited-edition Lambos are expected to sell out very, very quickly. Better get your wallet ready.
