With Samsung and Apple dominating and the two handset juggernauts combining to capture over 70% of the U.S. smartphone market, it’s easy to forget that there are other quality smartphone manufacturers. The only way for lesser known phone manufacturers to gain ground on Apple and Samsung is to provide innovation that neither offer. Lenovo hopes their new all-screen smartphone could be their way to wedge their company into the discussion of top handsets despite not being an Apple or Samsung.

You may already be familiar with Lenovo, the Chinese electronics company that produces personal computers, tablet computers, workstations, servers, electronic storage devices, and smartphones. Lenovo has been focusing more on handsets after they acquired Motorola Mobility from Google in 2014 for $2.91 billion. The company’s latest smartphone is the Lenovo Z5 and it could potentially be the first all-screen phone.

Lenovo’s Vice President Chang Cheng shared a couple of teaser images of the Z5 and it definitely has potential. The Lenovo Z5 features a best-ever 95% screen-to-body ratio. That means ultra-thin bezels unlike any other phone on the market and definitely no notch. Cheng boasted that Lenovo was granted 18 patented technologies and four technological breakthroughs for the Z5. Noticeably missing is a front camera, speakers, and various sensors. Is it possible that the sensors are embedded underneath the display or will they ditch the front camera completely? These important questions and more will be answered at Lenovo’s announcement on June 14th.
