5 Ocean-Inspired Men’s Colognes To Get You Ready For Summer
We are less than three weeks from the official start of summer and that means warm weather and plenty of social events where you want to look and smell your best. One of the most emblematic aspects is water, whether it means cooling off in a pool, fishing at the lake, or relaxing to ocean tides meeting the beach. Why not wear a fragrance that reflects the calm and refreshing aspects of water and the seas. Here are five ocean and water-inspired men’s colognes that will keep you smelling cool during the sweltering Summer of 2018.
The first thing you notice about Tommy Bahama Maritime Deep Blue is the beautiful and creative bottle. The lid looks like chrome dock cleat with nautical rope wrapped around it to instantly generate memories of summers past when you’d jump in the boat to enjoy a vibrant red grapefruit sunset or go fishing with your family or friends. The bottle is a deep blue tint to look like the deep blue ocean.
The fresh fragrance is derived from sun-drenched bergamot, spicy cardamom, aromatic juniper, and rosemary. There are fragrant floral hints of water lily, dewy freesia, geranium, and orris. Then there is a masculine notes of warm cedarwood, musks, and earthy patchouli.
“I was inspired by a trip to a secluded beach – it was so rustic and elemental, that I wanted to express its authenticity – the powerful waves, deep waters, strong winds and sizzling hot sun,” said perfumer Frank Voelkl from Firmenich. “Maritime Deep Blue captures this intensity with a burst of watery freshness, crisp aromatic notes, and sun-drenched driftwood.”
Salvatore Ferragamo Acqua Essenziale Blu was created by famed perfumer Alberto Morillas, who also created iconic fragrances such as Calvin Klein CK One, Bvlgari Omnia, and Panthere de Cartier. Acqua Essenziale Blu is a perfect summer fragrance thanks to it’s the citrusy scent of lemon tree, grapefruit, and mandarin. There is a fresh smell thanks to the notes of mint, geranium, rosemary, lavender, sea salt, and vetiver.
John Varvatos Artisan Blu was inspired by the Mediterranean Sea. This elegant, yet casual scent embodies a seaside summer day with eclectic aromas with plenty of herbs and citrus. Artisan Blu features bergamot, French lavender, chayote, basil, bitter orange, Egyptian geranium, palmarosa, Florentine iris, orange blossom, French Clary sage, patchouli, cedarwood, parasol pine, tamarisk, and pistachio tree resin.
Herrera Aqua by Carolina Herrera is a notable scent that has been around since 2004, but is still going strong. Herrera Aqua was inspired by the sense of sailing across the open sea. This men’s fragrance is masculine and can be worn to the office or at the beach. The fragrance is influenced by tonka bean, bamboo leaves, fig leaves, bergamot, mandarin orange, lavender, rosemary, cardamom, vetiver, pepper, amber, neroli, and musk.
Another coastal European-influenced fragrance on our list is Acqua Di Parma Blue Mediterraneo Arancia Di Capri. This sunny scent attempts to replicate the smells and feelings of the Italian island of Capri. Acqua Di Parma has been creating high-end fragrances in Italy since 1916. This citrusy men’s cologne has heavy notes of Italian oranges, mandarin, and lemons. Then there are more sophisticated hints of bergamot, sage, petitgrain, and cardamom to give it hints of caramel and musk.
