Ah, the old “first rodeo” quip – except this time, it genuinely was.

Last week I headed down to San Antonio for my first rodeo, courtesy of our friends at Grunt Style, maker of the finest patriotic threads in the USA.

Just like we predicted back in the beginning of February, what damn fine throwdown it was – the sheer grit and grace of those rodeo badasses, mixed with the unwavering spirit of the ranchers who work tirelessly to keep our nation fed, left me in admiration.

The whole shebang is a mix of skill, grit, guts, and pure heart on display – the stuff that makes American spirit so damn special.

Grunt Style’s limited edition tees for Rodeo really nailed it. Gems include “This is my bucking shirt,” which, let’s face it, is the closest I’ll get to riding a bull without ending up in a full-body cast. And, a personal favorite: “The best eight seconds of your life”? Pretty sure that’s longer than I’d last on one of those beasts (or… your mo- oops, I’ll keep it professional).

You know what rocks the most about San Antionio rodeo?

How much it brings people together. The fellowship and people-watching is something that has to be experienced.

Out there at the rodeo, beneath that big ol’ stretch of Texas heaven, it’s like we all just kinda melded together, you know? Ranch hands, city slickers, and first-timers like myself, all getting swept up in the moment in our finest boots and Grunt Style woobie (pictured at the top of this post). Heck, even every savory bite of that fine rodeo brisket taco felt like a hearty handshake from Texas itself, even if my giant foam cowboy hat was a tad crooked and my woobie.

It’s wild, man, how a place pulsing with such raw energy and tradition can wrap you up in a warm embrace, making you one of its own. There’s something about that rodeo magic that levels the playing field.
