Watch A Tesla Beat A Ferrari, A Porsche And Other High-Flying Cars In ‘World’s Greatest Drag Race’

Were you under the impression that electric cars were turtle-slow and boring? Well, not when it comes to Tesla automobiles. That’s right, the Tesla four-door electric-powered sedan can not only compete with some of the greatest sports cars on the road today, but when it comes to short distances the Tesla is even quicker than names synonymous with speed like Ferrari and Porsche. Motor Trend brought back their “World’s Greatest Drag Race,” where 12 lightning-fast vehicles went against each other in a test of speed.

Tesla’s Model S P100D beat out the competition in this quarter-mile drag race held at an active runway at the Vandenberg Air Force Base. The competition included a McLaren 570GT, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Ferrari 488 GTB, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Aston Martin DB11, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, Lexus LC500, Mercedes Benz AMG GTR, Nissan GT-R Nismo, and a Porsche 718 Cayman S. Off the line the Tesla’s electric motor dominated and was the fastest in the quarter-mile by rocketing 125 mph and finishing in 10.5 seconds. However, if the race had continued, the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Ferrari 488 GTB would have eclipsed the Tesla since they have top speeds over 200 mph where the Tesla has a maximum speed of 155 mph. Still, for a family sedan to more than hold its own against a Ferrari and a Porsche is crazy.
