The $1 Million Challenge is Back! Nominate Your Favorite Teachers To Fund Local Classroom Projects

This past year and a half hasn’t been easy for anybody, especially teachers. Transitioning curriculum to an online interface, while trying to provide the most engaging learning experience for students — that’s no easy task.

Not to mention doing all that while dealing with the effects of a global pandemic. Still think Mrs. Smith teaches for the joy of giving out detentions?

Now that life’s becoming a bit more normal, teachers across the country have the joy of returning back to the classroom. However, now they’re teaching a generation of TikTok obsessed students. Considering the hard work ahead, why not show the teachers in your life, whether that’s an old mentor, community leader, friend or even a family member, some appreciation for the effort they’re putting in?

To help show the love, Eckrich is joining with the CFP Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers program for the third consecutive year. Throughout the season, fans can visit www.Eckrich.com/teachers to nominate their favorite educators to participate in the $1 Million Challenge.

What is the $1 Million Challenge?

Heading into another school year riddled with challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, Eckrich wants to celebrate teachers across the country for their hard work and dedication to ensure that their students have the tools to succeed.

This 2021 college football season, Eckrich, in partnership with Extra Yard for Teachers, will invite a local teacher (and true MVP) onto the field at some of the biggest matchups of the season. Selected teachers will attempt to make a 15-yard throw for the chance to win a $1 million donation to support classroom resource projects within their area through Extra Yard for Teachers*.

And you have a chance to get in the action! Students, parents, or even fellow colleagues can nominate educators for the chance to make the winning throw.

I’d count that as an assist on your part.

So, if you’ve got a teacher who doesn’t shy away from extra credit, why not give her the recognition she deserves by submitting a nomination for the $1 Million Challenge?

Or perhaps, your favorite teacher is always talking about how his arm would’ve taken him to the league if it weren’t for his ACL injury. Well, now you can put him to the test, while giving him the appreciation he deserves.

2021 $1 Million Challenge Game Schedule

If you know a teacher deserving of this opportunity, take a look at the game schedule below and enter them for a chance to participate at a game near you!

  • October 30th – Michigan at Michigan State
  • November 6th – Oregon at Washington & Tennessee at Kentucky
  • Nov. 13th – Georgia at Tennessee
  • Nov. 20th – Florida State at Boston College

Lucky teachers, randomly selected from the list of entries, will have the chance to throw a football through a target to win up to $1 million to fund local classroom projects. Surely, your teacher who is constantly reminiscing about those ‘glory days’ as a star quarterback can handle that.

More Chances to Win!

If you don’t have much faith in your favorite teacher making that 15-yard throw, fear not. Let’s be real, not everyone was born with the god-given talent to throw a pigskin with a perfect spiral. It’s also no easy check down pass, we’re talking about 15 yards — that’s more than a first down.

So to up the ante on the $1 Million Challenge, Kirk Herbstreit, Emmy Award-winning ESPN/ABC college football analyst, and Marty Smith, multifaceted sports journalist for ESPN, will attempt throws at the 2022 national championship game toward a potential donation of another $1 million to Extra Yard for Teachers.

“I’m excited to be partnering with Eckrich for another year to support the $1 Million Challenge and, in turn, Extra Yard for Teachers,” said Herbsreit. “Being able to personally participate at the end of the season and try to add to that big donation is a great experience as it assists the amazing educators in this country who dedicate endless resources into setting the next generation up for success. It’s so nice to be part of a program that gives back in the magnitude that this one does.”

I’ll be rooting for you Mr. Wilson, but to be quite frank, I’ve got more faith in Kirk. He was at one point a starting Big Ten quarterback after all. And spoiler alert: he’s got some practice from previous years.
