Basil Hayden’s 10-Year-Old Rye Whiskey

My ears perk up and my mouth starts watering anytime I hear Basil Hayden’s is releasing a new Rye. They’ve yet to release a Rye Whiskey I didn’t love and I was particularly excited for their newest expression, the Basil Hayden’s 10-Year-Old Rye Whiskey which builds off their distinctive high rye recipe.
This 10-Year-Old Rye is bottled at 80-proof which makes it an extremely approachable Rye Whiskey for anyone who is put off by high-proof whiskeys. It has a gorgeous golden honey color which you can see in the image above with my swimming pool in the background down here in Florida. This expression has a pleasant aroma of light fruit, oak, and vanilla. On the tongue is has some caramel, spice, and oak but none of these elements overpower the others and they seem to come together in perfect harmony. There’s a warm vinish of cinnamon and a tiny hint of tobacco in there.
Like all whiskeys, the best way to drink this one is however you enjoy whiskey the most. You can drink the Basil Hayden’s 10-Year-Old Rye Whiskey neat, on the rocks, with a dropper of water, or mixed into a cocktail if you prefer. There’s no proper way to drink whiskey, just go with whatever you think you’ll enjoy the most. A portion of all the proceeds on this collection go directly towards Folds of Honor’s mission to provide scholarships to family members of fallen and disabled service members.
