The Uncle Nearest Uncut/Unfiltered Straight Rye Whiskey is the first what’s hopefully a long line of Rye releases from Uncle Nearest. It was released as part of an ongoing celebration of the legacy of Nearest Green, the man who is known as the ‘Godfather of Tennessee Whiskey’.
First Rye Whiskey From Uncle Nearest: Uncle Nearest Uncut/Unfiltered Straight Rye Whiskey
Uncle Nearest has been one of the hottest whiskey brands in the USA for a while now. They have a rich history starting with the name ‘Uncle Nearest’ which is named in honor of Uncle Nearest / Nearest Green who was a formerly enslaved man that later taught the one and only Jack Daniel how to distill whiskey. The demand for Uncle Nearest whiskeys varies from region to region but in most places it’s very hard to find.

The first-ever Uncle Nearest Rye is also the first-ever release in the distillery’s new Master Blend Edition Portfolio. Thus the full/official name of this release is ‘Master Blend Edition Portfolio: Uncle Nearest Uncut/Unfiltered Straight Rye Whiskey’. That’s quite the mouthful but it’ll help in the future when looking around for the rarest Uncle Nearest releases.
What’s in the bottle?
Uncle Nearest Uncut/Unfiltered Straight Rye Whiskey was launched as a distillery-exclusive release in late September.
This is an uncut and unfiltered straight rye, bottled at 119.7 proof (59.8% ABV) and it is Blend No. 001 as the first of the new Master Blend Portfolio.
As a Straight Rye Whiskey, it has a mash bill of at least 51% rye but the specific mash bill is unknown. Interestingly, it is an American-style Rye Whiskey but the whiskey itself was distilled in Canada before being aged in New York for 4 years before it was transferred to Tennessee.
For the life of me, I cannot recall another Canada-New York-Tennessee Rye Whiskey release.
